Nottingham Forest edge Tottenham in vital relegation showdown

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts had the first chance when Richarlison met Mathys Tel’s corner, but he headed wide.

The Tricky Trees responded. Omari Hutchinson was found on the break, but his strike was comfortably gathered by Guglielmo Vicario.

Jesus broke the deadlock before half-time after he met Nico Williams’ corner at the back post.

Spurs almost responded immediately as Tel looked to curl his effort into the top corner, but Matz Selz parried his effort away.

The visitors could’ve doubled their lead in the second half after Williams met Elliot Anderson’s cross at the back post, but Vicario denied him.

Just past the hour mark, Morgan Gibbs-White doubled the Tricky Trees’ advantage after he was found by Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cut-back pass.

Pape Matar Sarr could’ve pulled one back for the Lilywhites, but his first-time volley took a deflection off Ibrahim Sangare and flew just wide.

Taiwo Awoniyi completed the scoring after he volleyed home Williams’ cross in the 88th minute.

Sels preserved the visitors’ clean sheet as he denied Dominic Solanke from a corner before Randal Kolo Muani blasted over the rebound.

The defeat extends Tottenham’s winless run in the league to 13 games. They are one point above the drop zone, while Forest sit 16th, two points above Spurs.
