‘I have never seen that’: Paul Robinson shocked by Igor Tudor replacing Antonin Kinsky after mistakes at Atletico Madrid

Antonin Kinsky’s performance was one of the main talking points during Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-2 defeat at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round-of-16 first-leg tie on Tuesday.

Kinsky was at fault for two goals as Spurs lost their third consecutive game under interim manager Igor Tudor.

The Czech goalkeeper gifted Atleti the opening goal. He slipped while taking a goal-kick, allowing Marcos Llorente to give the Spanish side the lead.

Kinsky then misjudged a back-pass, enabling Julian Alvarez to score Atleti’s third of the night in the 15th minute.

Tudor quickly took the 22-year-old out of the firing line, replacing him with Guglielmo Vicario.

Speaking while on commentary duty for the BBC, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson expressed his shock at Tudor’s decision.

Robinson also warned that the substitution could have a psychological effect on Kinksy.

Kinsky joined Tottenham in January 2025. He has played second fiddle to Vicario but was handed a start against Atletico.

His display further highlights Tottenham’s poor recruitment, which has contributed to their struggles.

The club are sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone and look destined to exit the Champions League.

Vicario is expected to return to the starting line-up when Spurs take on Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
