Manchester City confirm contract extension for Bettinelli

Manchester City have confirmed that Marcus Bettinelli has signed a one-year extension, keeping him at the club until 2027.

The 33-year-old joined City last summer following the expiration of his contract at Chelsea.

He arrived to replace Scott Carson, who had served as City’s third-choice goalkeeper.  Bettinelli hasn’t played for City, but they appreciate his efforts behind the scenes.

When he arrived at the Etihad Stadium, Ederson and Stefan Ortega were ahead of him in the pecking order.

They were replaced by Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford last summer.

Ederson left to join Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, while Ortega stayed as the fourth choice until January, when he moved to Nottingham Forest.

Bettinelli is an academy product of Fulham, where he made 120 first-team appearances.

He spent four seasons at Chelsea and has also played for Dartford, Accrington Stanley and Middlesbrough.

City are set for a busy summer as they look to address a growing midfield crisis.

Bernardo Silva is widely expected to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Rodri also faces an uncertain future in Manchester, with Real Madrid targeting a move for him.

City want to retain the midfielder, but he could be tempted to join Madrid for a fresh challenge.
