Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City this summer, says his former Bayern Munich colleague

Pep Guardiola’s former Bayern Munich colleague Matthias Sammer has suggested that he will leave Manchester City in the summer.

The Spaniard led City to their first silverware of the season with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final last weekend.

However, Guardiola’s future in Manchester is a topic of debate, with it being suggested he could leave in just a few months’ time.

The 55-year-old is contracted with City until the summer of 2027, but his former colleague Sammer has hinted he will quit the club soon.

“Well, first of all, I was very happy for him. We worked together wonderfully for three years; it was very, very good,” Sammer said on Sky Germany’s Sammer and Basile – the Hagedorn Talk.

“I think I understood him quite well with his facial expressions, his gestures, his eyes, and his way of speaking. My gut feeling tells me something’s wrong when I look at his face.”

Guardiola took over City as manager in 2016, and he quickly transformed them into one of the best teams in the world.

He led the club to six Premier League titles, including four successive wins from 2019 to 2024.

The 2022-23 season was his most successful, when his team completed the continental treble of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

But City endured a tough campaign last season, as they finished third in the English top-flight and failed to lift silverware.

Their trophy drought came to an end on Sunday when they defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup, with Nico O’Reilly scoring both goals.

But despite the recent success, major doubts remain over Guardiola’s future at the Etihad Stadium.

It appears the immense pressure of managing at the top level for so many years is taking a toll on him.
