Scudetto hopes fade for AC Milan after Parma loss as Inter claim 10-point lead

AC Milan lost 1-0 to Parma at the Giuseppe Meazza thanks to an 80th-minute goal from Mariano Troillo, effectively ending their Serie A title challenge.

The Rossoneri conceded against the run of play to record only their second loss of the Serie A season, their first in 24 games.

Milan have bounced back impressively from an abysmal 2024/25 campaign. They re-hired Massimiliano Allegri, who has steered the club back into the upper echelon.

The seven-time UEFA Champions League winners looked to be pushing rivals Inter Milan for the Scudetto, but recent results have seen them fall further back in the race.

Milan have managed only one win in their last four games (D2, L1), allowing their ruthless arch-rivals take a 10-point lead with 12 games to go.

Milan travel to Cremonese next weekend before a crucial title decider with Inter.

If the Rossoneri have any hopes of spoiling Inter’s party, they must pick up maximum points in the coming match-ups.

After finishing ninth last season, the primary objective for Milan this term was not necessarily to wrestle back the Scudetto, but to restore their status among Europe’s elite.

Returning to the UEFA Champions League was the benchmark. In that context, this campaign still represents significant progress.

Nine draws have ultimately cost them momentum. Turning even a handful of those stalemates into victories could have kept them firmly in the title conversation deep into the spring.

However, this is not a side that should beat itself up. The bigger picture matters.

Milan have rebuilt their identity, regained consistency and re-established themselves at the top end of Serie A.

If they can get the right additions through the door in the summer transfer window, they can push for Scudetto number 20 next season.
